Ashok Leyland, the Indian flagship of the Hinduja Group and the country’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, today inaugurated its new integrated greenfield commercial vehicle manufacturing facility in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The state-of-the-art plant, focused on clean and green mobility solutions, was inaugurated by Shri Yogi Adityanath, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Defence, and Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, Hon’ble Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers and senior ministers from the Uttar Pradesh Government, diplomats from various countries, leading industrialists, Ashok Leyland’s global dealers, suppliers and partners, along with senior leadership from the Hinduja Group and Ashok Leyland.

Located at Sarojini Nagar Industrial Area near Lucknow Airport and spread across over 70 acres, the new facility is Ashok Leyland’s most advanced and sustainable manufacturing plant globally. The plant will primarily focus on the production of electric vehicles, with an initial annual production capacity of up to 5,000 vehicles. A majority of the workforce has been recruited locally from Uttar Pradesh, with a significant representation of women employees.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Dheeraj Hinduja, Chairman, Ashok Leyland, said, “The inauguration of this new plant marks the beginning of an important new chapter for Ashok Leyland in Uttar Pradesh. Designed as a green manufacturing facility, the Lucknow plant incorporates rooftop solar power generation, energy-efficient LED lighting, battery-operated in-plant logistics, positive water balance initiatives, and a zero-liquid discharge system. The facility is also expected to play a key role in skill development and employment generation in the region.

With Uttar Pradesh emerging as a frontrunner in electric vehicle adoption, the new facility underscores Ashok Leyland’s long-term commitment to supporting the state’s green mobility vision while strengthening its leadership in sustainable transportation across India.
