EKA Mobility, along with Pinnacle Industries Ltd. and its group companies, has inaugurated six manufacturing facilities across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh at its EKA ‘Avirbhava’ event in Pune. The expansion brings together vehicle assembly, automotive engineering, components, seating and interiors under an integrated manufacturing ecosystem for electric commercial vehicles.

The inauguration was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Sunetra Pawar, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, Maharashtra Minister of Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Dada Patil, BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh and Dr Abhay Firodia, Chairman of Force Motors.

Dr Sudhir Mehta, Founder and Chairman of EKA Mobility and Group Companies, described the inauguration as a major milestone in the company’s plans to build a manufacturing ecosystem rooted in India, with a focus on indigenous engineering, sustainable mobility and manufacturing capabilities.

The six facilities cover different areas of commercial vehicle production. The EKA SCV Plant in Pune will cater to the company’s small commercial vehicle range, while the EKA Bus and Trucks Plant will manufacture its bus and medium and heavy commercial vehicle platforms.

The VDL Pinnacle Engineering Plant, a joint venture between Netherlands-based VDL Groep and Pinnacle Industries, will focus on automotive engineering. The Instor India Plant will manufacture retail fixtures and storage solutions, alongside automotive products such as electric bus body structures and IP67-rated battery enclosures.

The remaining two facilities include the Pinnacle Seating and Interiors Plant in Pune, dedicated to seating, interiors and components, and Pinnacle Interiors Plant in Pithampur, which will manufacture seating systems and interiors for buses, trains, tractors, ambulances, motorhomes and custom vehicles.

With these additions, EKA Mobility and its group companies now operate 11 manufacturing facilities spread across 120 acres, with the capacity to produce more than 40,000 electric vehicles annually. The group has invested over ₹3,500 crore in the manufacturing ecosystem and more than ₹600 crore in research and development. It also holds over 300 intellectual properties and has more than 3,000 vehicles on the road.

The expansion comes as EKA Mobility reported year-on-year growth of 1,243% in H1 FY27. The company has an order book of more than 11,000 buses, valued at US$1.7 billion, with deployments across several states. Its electric small commercial vehicles have also recorded more than 1,500 sales across passenger mobility, last-mile delivery and goods transportation.

Engineering and software development remain part of the group’s operations. EKA has a workforce of more than 6,000 employees, including a 1,000-member research and development team. Its in-house EKA Connect software monitors more than 1,500 parameters of each running vehicle every half a second, providing operational data to the company and fleet customers. The company states that the vehicle data remains within India.

The group is also looking beyond the domestic market. Its electric buses are deployed in Zanzibar, while its small commercial vehicles are operating in Nepal. Assembly plants are being established in South Africa and Australia as part of its international expansion plans.

The group expects its manufacturing network and wider ecosystem to generate more than 2.5 lakh jobs over the next five years. It is also supported by a network of over 75 dealerships across India, operating as integrated sales, service and spares facilities.

With six new facilities joining its existing manufacturing network, EKA Mobility is expanding its production base across electric buses, small commercial vehicles and medium and heavy commercial vehicle platforms.
