Company expands All Steel Radial OTR portfolio to 49-inch giant tyres and outlines a technology roadmap through 2028
Ascenso Tyres has announced a US$100 million investment to establish advanced All Steel Radial (ASR) tyre manufacturing capability in India, strengthening its position in the mining and earthmoving tyre market. The multi-year investment will support specialised radial production technology, product development, testing infrastructure, engineering talent, giant tyre manufacturing and future capacity expansion at the company’s Indian production facility.

Expanding India’s Mining Tyre Capability
The investment comes as India’s mining sector expands across coal, iron ore, bauxite, limestone and critical minerals. Rising mechanisation and the need to improve equipment uptime are increasing demand for tyres that can deliver durability, productivity and lower operating costs.Ascenso’s All Steel Radial Off-The-Road (ROTR) portfolio, which began with 25-inch tyres, has now expanded to include 49-inch giant mining tyres. The company says larger sizes are already under development, targeting applications ranging from construction and quarrying to large open-pit mining.According to Ascenso, the development makes it the second Indian tyre brand and the fifth globally outside China to enter giant tyre manufacturing with its own in-house design and development capability.
From AFC Tyres to Radial OTR
Ascenso began its Radial OTR journey in late 2023 following customer engagements that highlighted the need for high-performance radial mining tyres across multiple markets.Since then, the company has assembled a specialised team of OTR engineers, application specialists and R&D professionals, commercialising multiple Radial OTR products and developing a technology platform for mining and earthmoving applications. Its roadmap through 2027 and 2028 includes additional tyre sizes, specialised tread patterns and larger wheel diameters for mining, earthmoving and loader applications.
Focus on Performance and Operating Economics
Ascenso says its Radial OTR products are benchmarked against established global brands during design, engineering and validation. The company’s strategy is to offer premium-level performance at a competitive price, rather than compete solely on cost. This approach is aimed at providing Indian mining operators with a domestically manufactured alternative to imported tyres while addressing requirements related to durability, productivity and total cost of ownership.
Field Engineers to Support Mining Operations
As part of its expansion, Ascenso is deploying more than 15 dedicated Field Application Engineers across key mining markets globally, including India’s major mining belts. The engineers will work with mine operators to monitor tyre performance, analyse wear behaviour, understand operating conditions and feed field data into Ascenso’s R&D organisation. In India, the company’s focus includes mining regions across Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka, among other states. The field-led approach is intended to accelerate product optimisation and ensure future tyre development reflects real-world operating conditions.
Building for India and Global Markets
Commenting on the investment, Yogesh Mahansaria, Managing Director, Ascenso Tyres, said:“India’s mining sector is scaling up like never before, and the equipment that powers it needs tyres that can match that ambition. Building this capability in India, for India as well as the rest of the world, has been central to our thinking from the start. Our US$100 million investment is about building world-class radial mining tyre engineering and manufacturing capability within the country, not simply adding capacity.”
Dhaval Nanavati, Chief Executive Officer, Ascenso Tyres, added:“Over the past four years, our foundation in Agriculture, Forestry and Construction taught us how important it is to stay close to customers on the ground, and that is exactly the approach we are bringing to mining. Reaching 49-inch giant mining tyres, engineered here in India, is a significant milestone, not just for Ascenso but for what Indian manufacturing is capable of in this space.”Ascenso says its long-term objective is to build a comprehensive radial mining tyre portfolio for India and international markets, with further product development planned through 2028.
