Terra Motors launches KYORO+, a high-performance electric three-wheeler in the L5 category, designed for India’s roads, writes Richa Tyagi.

In a significant leap towards transforming urban mobility, Japanese OEM Terra Motors through its Indian arm has developed the KYORO+. The name ‘KYORO’ for the OEM’s electric three-wheeler is known to have been inspired by the Japanese word symbolising alertness and agility. It perfectly encapsulates the vehicle’s dynamic character and modern engineering. With the introduction of KYORO+, Terra Motors expands its robust electric three-wheeler lineup, which already includes popular models such as Y4A, Rizin, and Pace. As part of its growth roadmap, Terra Motors aims to establish 100 dealerships across India and ramp up its monthly production capacity to 5,000 units by the end of 2025. With these aggressive expansion plans, the company is targeting leadership in India’s rapidly growing USD 1,174.1 million electric three-wheeler segment as per Go Suzuki san, Managing Director of Terra Motors India.
With over a decade of manufacturing and operational experience in India, Terra Motors has sold more than 100,000 L3 units. “We currently lead the market in East India. At Terra, we have long been shaping the future of clean mobility through our E-rickshaws. Now, with the launch of our L5 Electric Auto, we are taking that vision further,” averred Suzuki san. Echoing a similar sentiment, Toru Tokushige san, Founder & CEO of Terra Motors hailed India as the OEM’s strongest and most strategic commitment globally. “Our mission at Terra is to lead through continuous innovation and to become the number one brand shaping the future of electric mobility. The launch of KYORO+ in India is a proud milestone for us,” he expressed The company as per Tokushige san is confident courtesy an efficient design and powerful performance.
KYORO+ is designed to meet the demands of modern commuting, and claimed to stand out in three key areas. First, its impressive range of up to 200 km on a single charge sets a new benchmark for daily transportation and commercial use. Second, its powerful performance includes rapid acceleration from zero to 28 kmph in just five seconds, a top speed of 55 kmph, and the ability to climb gradients of up to 22 per cent, ensuring reliable performance across all terrains. The vehicle offers an expansive cabin with generous legroom, providing a comfortable and relaxed ride over long distances.

The Nose
The front fascia of the KYORO+ draws attention to a hydraulic spring suspension system designed to provide superior ride comfort, especially on ramps and uneven terrain. Just above, the vehicle is equipped with dual LED headlamps with integrated Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), claimed to offer enhanced visibility and a well-lit path for safe driving in all conditions. The three-wheeler features two wide-angle rear view mirrors, providing a 53-degree field of rear visibility. This is aimed at improving situational awareness and ensuring a safer, more comfortable driving experience. Inside the cabin, convenience is prioritised. A USB Type-A charging port allows drivers to charge their phones with a 2A output, while a reserve switch activates when the main battery is depleted, offering an extra 13 km of emergency range to help reach the nearest charging point. On the right side of the dashboard, a battery error safety alert system is installed, using an LED light to notify the driver of any faults. The centre-mounted digital cluster presents essential driving information such as the odometer, trip meter, system error alerts, and State of Charge (SoC) displayed in a clear bar format. Other notifications include turn indicators, low battery alerts, and brake oil level warnings.

BMS
The vehicle draws power from a robust 230Ah, 11.7 kWh LFP lithium-ion battery, which is ARAI-certified to deliver a range of up to 200 km. Charging is expected to be fast and convenient with the included 50A charger, capable of charging the battery from zero per cent to 80 per cent in just three hours and 15 minutes. Starting the vehicle involves a two-step ignition system; the first step powers on the vehicle, while the second step enables or disables the parking mode. This acts as a built-in safety feature, as the vehicle remains immobilised until the parking mode is manually turned off, with a clear indication displayed on the digital instrument cluster.
High-Performance Motor and Transmission At the heart of KYORO+ is a powerful motor integrated with a two-speed gearbox, delivering 8 kW of power and 600 Nm of torque at the wheels. The motor boasts an IP67 rating, making it highly resistant to water and dust, and is built to perform even in tough environments. Additionally, it features regenerative braking, which recovers energy during deceleration to extend driving range. The advanced motor controller ensures stable performance and effective heat dissipation, even under high-temperature conditions. A built-in hazard light function adds an extra layer of safety for emergencies. Built entirely with a high-strength metal body, the KYORO+ offers enhanced durability and structural integrity. The vehicle also supports telematics, enabling real-time tracking and operational insights for fleet management.
For emergency signalling, a hazard light switch is conveniently placed next to the ignition key, activating all indicators simultaneously. Completing the in-cabin experience is a built-in FM radio system with bass and travel controls, driving two high-bass speakers that deliver a rich and enjoyable audio experience during the journey.
The KYORO+ is equipped with a two-speed gearbox with a clutch mechanism to offer greater control and performance across different terrains. The gear lever has a simple and intuitive layout, first gear is positioned upward, neutral in the centre, and second gear downward. First gear is ideal for steep inclines, offering excellent climbing capability with grade ability up to 22 per cent, while second gear allows the vehicle to reach a top speed of 55 kmph for smooth cruising on level roads.
For passenger comfort and visibility, a cabin light is installed on the ceiling of the vehicle, ensuring adequate lighting during low-light conditions. Safety is further enhanced with a hydraulic centralised braking system, which enables the vehicle to decelerate from 55 kmph to a complete stop within just 16 metres, delivering high braking efficiency and reliable control, even at higher speeds, as per the company claims.
Passenger Comfort
For passenger comfort, the three-wheeler is equipped with a sofa-style cushion seat measuring 1.2 metres in length and 0.41 metres in width. This seating setup offers generous legroom and ample headspace, ensuring a relaxed and comfortable ride. At the rear, the vehicle provides a dedicated luggage space of 1.3 metres in length and 0.5 metres in width, allowing cargo to be stored easily without interfering with passenger seating. The vehicle’s architecture also integrates automatic electrical charging and a hydraulic propulsion system into a single, efficient unit.
Easy Ownership
To enhance accessibility, Terra Motors will offer zero down payment options through its financing arm, Terra Finance. KYORO+ is designed as a smart, agile, and efficient mobility solution for India, combining Japanese innovation with local needs. “Our unique zero down payment financing model ensures that every customer can access top-quality electric mobility, making sustainability both affordable and inclusive,” concluded Go Suzuki san. It is priced at Rs. Rs 3.66 lakh (Ex-showroom).
