Japanese electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturer Terra Motors will export a select range of vehicles it manufactures to African markets of Ethiopia, Nigeria, Tanzania and Sudan. The company, through its wholly owned Indian subsidiary, launched the Y4Alfa e-rickshaw at a price of Rs.1.3 lakh early this year. It also announced a plan to sell 30000 units of e-rickshaws and 20000 set of Terra Batteries by the end of this fiscal. The battery unit is made in India and present the e-rickshaws a certain local edge. Having invested in a local setup, the company plans to export completely built units to the African markets. Toru Tokushige, CEO and President, Terra Motors, is known to have said that they want to tap the rising awareness for electric vehicles in Africa. Exports from India will help the company take advantage of the lower cost of manufacture.
