SWITCH Mobility has expanded its electric bus portfolio with the launch of the all-new EiV9, a 9-metre electric bus designed for city transit, employee transportation and school mobility. Unveiled at Prawaas 5.0, the new platform is aimed at helping fleet operators improve operational efficiency while supporting the transition to zero-emission public transport.

Built on a new-generation electric bus platform, the EiV9 has been developed with a focus on lower total cost of ownership (TCO), higher energy efficiency and improved passenger comfort. The company expects the vehicle to cater to the growing demand for medium-sized electric buses as cities and institutional transport operators continue to expand their electric mobility programmes.

Speaking at the launch, Ganesh Mani, CEO, SWITCH Mobility, said the company sees significant growth potential in the 9-metre electric bus segment, which is projected to grow at a CAGR of nearly 34% by FY2030. He said the EiV9 has been purpose-built to deliver higher efficiency, enhanced passenger comfort, advanced safety and lower operating costs, while creating greater value for fleet operators.

The EiV9 is powered by a Permanent Magnet Variable Reluctance (PMVR) motor delivering up to 213 kW of peak power. It offers multiple battery pack configurations, regenerative braking and dual-gun CCS2 fast charging, enabling operators to configure the bus according to route requirements while maximising vehicle uptime.

Passenger comfort has been a key focus during development. The bus features a spacious cabin, full front and rear air suspension, ergonomic seating and individual USB charging ports. For employee transportation applications, SWITCH Mobility is also offering pushback seats to enhance comfort on longer routes.

Safety features include a Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS), disc brakes on both axles and an electric architecture engineered to deliver reliable performance across varying operating conditions.

Alongside the EiV9, SWITCH Mobility also unveiled its #SwitchKaro campaign, an initiative aimed at encouraging fleet operators, businesses and transport authorities to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility by highlighting the operational and environmental benefits of electric commercial vehicles.

The company also showcased the enhanced EiV12 Intercity electric bus, featuring premium reclining seats, Digital ORVMs, floor-mounted LFP battery packs, dual-gun DC fast charging and the company’s connected vehicle platform, SWITCH iON, designed to improve fleet performance, diagnostics and operational efficiency.
