Aiming to provide customers with an integrated and sustainable transport solution, Italian CV manufacturer IVECO recently launched the S-WAY long haul truck with full connectivity and enhanced features. The launch also marked the first of IVECO’s WAY heavy range, which intends to extensively focus on the services offered around vehicles along with the product itself. Featuring a new design theme which optimises aerodynamic performance, the company claims to have achieved a higher fuel efficiency of up to 4 per cent due to a better external design.

In a bid to reduce total cost of ownership and improve efficiency and productivity for logistics operators, IVECO has equipped the S-WAY with all the features available in the previous generation models. The focus has also been on improving driver comfort over long distances, whereby the cabin has been designed to enhance ergonomics and functionality. Improved visibility and a reinforced body structure add to the safety quotient of the truck.

The new S-Way is claimed to be better connected than its predecessor, due to a new and advanced Connectivity Box. It collects, processes and exchanges data in real time. It works off a service platform developed in partnership with Microsoft that provides safe data storage and management, and other value-added services. Developed to maximise vehicle up-time, this technology enables owners and drivers to be connected with the vehicle on their device through the user-friendly MyIVECO portal and app.

The MyIVECO EASY Way App aims to improve the driver’s experience behind the wheel through driver assistance & driving style features combined with services developed to help him/her operate more efficiently. This app also opens up many other personalised services including professional fuel advising, fleet management and maintenance, to optimise fleet operations. An HI-SCR after-treatment system has been incorporated by IVECO in the new S-WAY to improve fuel efficiency. The use of advanced engine technology and Hi-Tronix transmission along with the adoption of fuel-saving solutions such as the Smart EGR further contribute to a reduced PM, NOx and CO2 rating of the vehicle.

Part of the WAY range, the S-WAY Natural Power offers a green option to fleet operators, as it an LNG truck powered by a 460 hp motor and a range of 1600 km. Currently being the only low-emission alternative to diesel for heavy vehicle applications, this LNG-equipped model delivers PM emissions 99 per cent lower than diesel, 90 per cent less NO2 and the addition of biomethane results in a 95 per cent reduction of CO2.

Sharing his thoughts on this new launch, Gerrit Marx, President Commercial and Specialty Vehicles, IVECO, said, “We want to become the Easiest-to-work-and-innovate-with Truck OEM for our suppliers and customers, while tailoring our vehicles around a Driver´s life, which today is more than just the route he travels. Sustainability also entails our responsibility to make this job, which is crucial for our society, a more attractive and enjoyable one, which goes beyond just adding leather and wood applications.”
