ICICI Lombard, under its flagship CSR initiative, organised one of its largest helmet distribution initiatives and a road safety rally being flagged off by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, in the presence of Sandeep Goradia, Chief – Retail, Business Strategy & Solutions Team, ICICI Lombard, along with distinguished dignitaries from government and police.

As part of the initiative, the company distributed over 25,000 ISI-certified helmets across 14 locations, attempting a ‘Guinness World Records™ Title’ for the most helmets distributed in 12 hours (multiple venues). ICICI Lombard is committed to the cause of Road Safety and has been working across the continuum of awareness, prevention and rehabilitation by focusing on behavioural change among parents and children through direct contact programmes and by advocating the importance of protective gear for safer commuting. It has been collaborating with traffic police for reinforcement of safer road practices, and also working in high-risk zones to implement zero-fatality solutions and support the rehabilitation of accident victims through dedicated centres in Noida and Patna. Since 2015, the company has distributed more than 7 lakh helmets and impacted over 2.5 million lives pan India.

Speaking at the event, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, said, “I congratulate ICICI Lombard on their 25th anniversary. The road safety initiatives of the company are commendable, having distributed over 7 lakh helmets and impacted over 2.5 million lives since 2015. Road safety is a shared national responsibility that requires the collective efforts of government, institutions, industry and every road user. While we continue to strengthen road infrastructure, vehicle safety standards and enforcement, creating awareness and encouraging responsible road behaviour remain equally important. Sustained community engagement, particularly among young people and families, can play a significant role in reducing road accidents and saving lives.”

Speaking on the occasion, Sandeep Goradia, Chief – Retail, Business Strategy & Solutions Team, ICICI Lombard, said, “At ICICI Lombard, we believe that protecting lives extends beyond insurance. Every day, hundreds of precious lives are lost on Indian roads, making road safety not only a policy priority but also a shared national responsibility. Through our Road Safety initiatives, we are fostering responsible road behaviour, encouraging safer choices, and empowering communities to build a stronger culture of road safety across India. As part of our 25-year celebration, we are distributing 25,000 helmets and attempting a ‘Guinness World Records™ Title’, reaffirming our commitment to creating safer roads. From advocating safer driving practices and providing helmets to vulnerable groups, to collaborating with traffic police, supporting augmented road infrastructure through zero-fatality corridors and enabling rehabilitation for accident victims, our goal is to help reduce fatalities and create lasting, meaningful change on India’s roads.”

India recorded over 4,80,000 road accidents in 2024 and over 1,70,000 fatalities, out of which 46.2% were amongst two-wheeler riders. ICICI Lombard’s road safety initiatives combine awareness with action, encouraging responsible road behaviour and greater adoption of helmets to help reduce preventable road injuries and fatalities.
