Tata Motors has expanded its presence in the alternate fuel SCV and pickup segment with the launch of the Intra V40 bi-fuel pickup, strengthening its portfolio for last-mile cargo transportation.

The launch comes at a time when demand for alternate fuel commercial vehicles continues to grow, driven by operators seeking lower running costs, improved operating flexibility and higher profitability in increasingly competitive logistics and distribution markets.

The Intra V40 combines CNG and petrol fuel capability with a payload capacity of 1,525 kg and a 2,960 mm (9.7 ft) load body. Tata Motors says the vehicle has been developed for high-load, high-utilisation applications across urban and semi-urban cargo operations.

Powering the pickup is a 1.2-litre engine producing 58 bhp and 106 Nm of torque. The vehicle is equipped with a 110-litre CNG tank and a bi-fuel architecture designed to provide operational continuity across varying route and fuel availability conditions.

Commenting on the launch, Pinaki Haldar, Vice President & Business Head – SCVPU, Tata Motors Ltd., said the shift towards alternate fuels in cargo transportation is accelerating as customers increasingly prioritise lower operating costs and greater flexibility.

“The shift towards alternate fuels in last-mile cargo transport is accelerating, driven by the need for lower operating costs and greater flexibility. Tata Motors is at the forefront of this transition, with a clear focus on building the strongest and most comprehensive alternate fuel portfolio in the SCV and pickup segment,” he said.

According to the company, the launch further strengthens its alternate fuel mobility strategy, which now spans bi-fuel, CNG and electric commercial vehicle offerings across multiple payload categories.

The Intra V40 joins Tata Motors’ existing alternate fuel portfolio, which includes the Ace Pro Bi-Fuel, Ace CNG 2.0 and Intra V20 Gold. The company has also been expanding its electric commercial vehicle range through products such as the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV 1000 and Intra EV Pickup.

Built on Tata Motors’ Intra platform, the vehicle features a walk-through cabin, front disc brakes and a hydroformed chassis aimed at enhancing durability, driver comfort and operational reliability.

The pickup is supported by Tata Motors’ Sampoorna Seva 2.0 ownership programme and Fleet Edge connected vehicle platform, offering operators access to telematics, predictive maintenance support and real-time vehicle insights.

With the launch of the Intra V40, Tata Motors continues to strengthen its position in the alternate fuel SCV market as fleet operators increasingly evaluate fuel-efficient and flexible transportation solutions for last-mile cargo operations.
