Facility to scrap up to 21,000 end-of-life vehicles annually; part of Tata Motors’ expanding green mobility ecosystem

Tata Motors, the commercial vehicle manufacturer, has inaugurated a new Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Kolkata under its ‘Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect’ initiative. This is the company’s eighth such facility in India and the third in eastern India, aiming to promote responsible scrapping and recycling of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs).
With an annual capacity to dismantle 21,000 vehicles, the new Re.Wi.Re centre will be operated by Tata Motors’ partner Selladale Synergies India Pvt. Ltd. It is equipped to safely and sustainably scrap passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers—regardless of brand.
The inauguration was attended by Mr. Snehasis Chakraborty, Hon’ble Transport Minister, Government of West Bengal; Mr. Firhad Hakim, Mayor of Kolkata and Hon’ble Minister of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs (virtually); Dr. Saumitra Mohan, IAS, Secretary, Department of Transport, Government of West Bengal; and Mr. Rajesh Kaul, Vice President & Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, along with other senior officials.
A Step Towards Cleaner, Greener Mobility
Mr. Snehasis Chakraborty remarked, “The Re.Wi.Re facility is a welcome move for West Bengal. It not only supports cleaner transport but also encourages the use of newer and safer vehicles while contributing to a circular economy in the auto sector.”
Joining the event virtually, Mr. Firhad Hakim said, “This facility will significantly reduce the environmental footprint of ageing vehicles and create new job opportunities. We appreciate Tata Motors’ efforts to bring this forward-looking initiative to Kolkata.”
Mr. Rajesh Kaul added, “This facility is a key part of our mission to lead India’s sustainable mobility journey. With eight scrapping centres now operational, Tata Motors has the capacity to dismantle over 1.3 lakh vehicles annually, in line with India’s scrappage policy.”
Powered by Technology, Backed by Compliance
Each Re.Wi.Re facility is fully digital and operates a paperless, streamlined workflow. The Kolkata centre features:
- Cell-type dismantling for CVs, two- and three-wheelers
- Line-type dismantling for passenger vehicles
- Specialised stations to safely extract and dispose of tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, and gases
Every vehicle that arrives undergoes a documented, methodical dismantling process that meets India’s official vehicle scrappage standards. The goal is safe, eco-friendly recycling, maximising material recovery while ensuring zero harm to the environment.

Building a National Scrappage Network
Tata Motors already operates Re.Wi.Re centres in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Pune and Guwahati. The addition of Kolkata strengthens its pan-India coverage, especially for customers in eastern India seeking compliant and efficient scrapping services.
As India gears up for cleaner mobility and stricter emission norms, Tata Motors’ scrappage facilities are helping accelerate the transition. By offering end-to-end ELV management with a focus on safety, compliance, and sustainability, the company is playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of responsible transportation in the country.
