The Indian automotive industry produced 21,820,072 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers and two wheelers in the period between April 2015 and February 2016 as against 21,460,837 vehicles produced in the corresponding period last fiscal, registering a marginal growth of 1.67 per cent. The Commercial Vehicles segment registered a growth of 10.42 per cent in the period between April 2015 and February 2016 by selling 605,839 units as compared to the corresponding period last fiscal when 548,658 units were sold. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered a growth at 30.63 per cent by selling 265,236 units as compared to 203,039 units sold during the corresponding period last fiscal. Light Commercial Vehicles declined by (-) 1.45 per cent during the April 2015 to February 2016 period by selling 340,603 units as compared to 345,619 units sold during the same period last fiscal. Three Wheelers sales declined by (-) 0.50 percent in April-February 2016 over the same period last year. Passenger Carrier sales increased by 0.24 per cent whereas the Goods Carrier sales declined by (-) 3.75 percent respectively in the period between April 2015 and February 2016 as compared to the corresponding period last fiscal.

During the month of February 2016, 62,359 Commercial Vehicles were sold as compared to 51,998 units sold in February 2015, clocking a growth of 19.93 per cent. In February 2016, 29,035 M&HCVs were sold over 21,616 numbers sold in February 2015, clocking a growth of 34.32 per cent. In February 2016, 33,324 LCVs were sold as compared to 30,382 units sold in February 2015, clocking a growth of 9.68 per cent. In February 2016, 44,956 three wheelers were sold as compared to 34,032 units sold in February 2015, marking a growth of 32.10 per cent.

Exports

In the period between April 2015 and February 2016, overall vehicular exports grew by 1.56 per cent. Commercial Vehicles and Three Wheelers grew by 17.66 per cent and 3.01 per cent respectively, selling 91,146 units and 382,832 units respectively. In February 2016, 8,250 Commercial Vehicles were sold as compared to 7,428 units exported in February 2015, marking a growth of 11.07 per cent. In February 2016, 23,175 three wheelers were exported as compared to 22,561 exported in February 2015, marking a growth of 2.72 per cent.
