Daimler Trucks Asia has started CKD kit assembly of the Fuso range of trucks at the AVA assembly plant at Mombasa, Kenya. The kits are supplied from Japan, and include the Fuso 2523C heavy-duty truck. This truck was earlier supplied in fully-built form from India. Marking the the next stage of assembling vehicles in Africa, and for Africa according to Eric Nesselhauf, MD and CEO, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, the addition of 2523C truck was executed in a short span of five months. Further models from the range are expected to be added subsequently. The Fuso range is distributed by Simba Colt Motors, one of the oldest general distributors that Daimler has had a relationship with worldwide. AVA has been the partner for the assembly of Fuso products imported from Japan, since 1982.
