Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) has completed the expansion of its carbon black manufacturing facility, increasing annual production capacity from 265,000 Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) to 360,000 MTPA with an investment of ₹800 crore, funded entirely through internal accruals. The expansion strengthens BKT’s vertical integration strategy by securing a key raw material used in tyre manufacturing, reducing dependence on merchant suppliers and improving cost efficiencies. Carbon black currently contributes around eight per cent of BKT’s revenue, with the company targeting a rise to nearly 10 per cent by 2030. The additional capacity is expected to support future demand, improve operating margins, and strengthen supply security as BKT expands its Off-Highway Tyre (OHT) business and enters new segments such as rubber tracks, mining applications, Truck and Bus Radial (TBR) and Passenger Car Radial (PCR) tyres. The expansion aligns with BKT’s long-term objective of achieving Rs. 23,000 crore in revenue by FY30 through capacity expansion, product diversification and market share gains.
