Axalta Coating Systems is celebrating 150 years of its existence in the coating industry. Carved out of the acquisition of DuPont’s Performance Coatings by the Carlyle Group in 2013, Axalta Coating Systems history can be traced back to Herberts, the original producer of Standox paint products. From catering to the European carriage manufacturers in the nineteenth century, to meeting the needs of the automotive industry in the twentieth century, Axalta, according to industry sources, has come to cater to the needs of commercial vehicle manufacturers like Volvo Buses in India. As part of its expansion spree in Germany, Brazil, China, Mexico and India, the company is doubling production at the Savli (Gujarat) plant. It is also increasing focus on OEMS by building an automotive OEM coatings development laboratory. Both are expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2017 according to Charles Shaver, Chairman and CEO.
