Ashok Leyland’s efforts to cut the flab continue. It is said to be looking at wrapping up 20 of its 27 joint ventures, including joint venture Ashley Alteams India with Alteams OY of Finland; Leyland Deere joint venture with John Deere Construction Equipment; Automotive Infrotronics joint venture with Siemens, and Ashley Airways. The company is also said to have sold Ashok Leyland Wind Energy and Avia Ashok Leyland Motors (along with its subsidiaries Avia Trucks, UK, and Avia Ashok Leyland Rus, Russia). The management is also known to have announced a voluntary retirement scheme which was opted for by 500 executives in a bid to save on employee expenditures. Sources close to Ashok Leyland claim that such measures, apart from cutting the flab, would enable it to focus on its core businesses better.
