The fourth edition of Busworld Southeast Asia 2026 will focus on stakeholder initiatives for enhanced service coverage in Jakarta, writes Richa Tyagi.

The fourth edition of Busworld Southeast Asia will take place in Jakarta from May 20-22, 2026, at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo Kemayoran). This event is set to highlight the extensive and dynamic public transportation sector of the region, specifically focusing on Indonesia’s bus and coach segments. Indonesia is a pivotal country in Southeast Asia’s mobility landscape. Its unique model within the global bus industry is defined by a robust domestic manufacturing sector and a distinct ecosystem where bus body builders work in close partnership with international powertrain OEMs. The exhibition will feature both domestic and international players who are actively shaping the bus and coach industry. A key focus will be on achieving 95 per cent service coverage, with specific attention given to electrification, integrated ticketing systems, and the expansion of the TransJakarta lines.

The 2026 edition will feature the significant return of Indonesia’s leading bus bodybuilders, collectively representing around 80 per cent of the regional market. Industry giants like Adi Putro, Laksana, Tentrem, and New Armada will be making their fourth consecutive appearance. Adiputro Wirasejati, one of Indonesia’s most respected bus body manufacturers, will use the forum to showcase its pioneering frame design for pneumatic suspension, along with initiatives to improve passenger comfort and on-road safety. Also returning is Karoseri Tentrem, known for its commitment to international standards and skilled human resources, which provides high-quality and reliable bus solutions.

Visitors can also expect insights into Tentrem’s latest innovations, including its collaboration with PT Restu Mulya Mandiri. Together, they have introduced the Avante H8 MultiClass bus, built at Tentrem Bodyworks. Laksana is also contributing to Indonesia’s electrification push. Visitors can expect to learn more about developments such as domestically manufactured electric buses being prepared for deployment by TransJakarta. Produced by Laksana, these vehicles highlight the growing capability of local manufacturers to support sustainable urban mobility solutions. Piala Mas joins as one of the newest exhibitors. The company offers a diverse portfolio ranging from large and medium buses to micro buses and specialised vehicles such as ambulances, school buses, and mobile libraries.

Expanding International Participation

While local players dominate, international participation continues to grow at the Busworld expo. The presence of global manufacturers such as Golden Dragon reflects increasing worldwide interest in Southeast Asia as a strategic growth region for bus and coach solutions. Golden Dragon will showcase its expertise in manufacturing luxury buses and light vans. Esmak Makina, founded in 2002, brings its experience as an international trading and engineering firm serving markets across Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. PT Radhika Sanskara Ignacia adds a digital dimension to the exhibitor mix. The company provides IT consulting, software development, AI solutions, infrastructure management, and professional training, helping businesses streamline operations and drive digital transformation.

Conference Driving Dialogue and Direction

On the sidelines of the Busworld Southeast Asia Conference, policymakers, operators, manufacturers, and industry experts from across the ASEAN region will convene for crucial deliberations. The programme will feature speakers from ASEAN governments, transport authorities, and leading industry players. This creates a platform for both knowledge exchange and constructive dialogue between public and private stakeholders.

The conference is expected to open with a strategic assessment of ASEAN’s role in the global bus market, with a strong focus on the transition toward clean, smart, and connected mobility. Electrification will be a central theme, including discussions on charging infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and real-world implementation in Jakarta. Safety and standardisation are also expected to be key areas of discussion, with regulators and manufacturers sharing insights on aligning regional practices with international benchmarks.

On the second day, attention will shift to the global ambitions of Southeast Asian bodybuilders, alongside broader themes such as digitalisation, intercity transport development, and multimodal integration. The programme is set to conclude with a high-level panel discussion on the future of public transport in Jakarta, linking mobility strategies with the city’s long-term development vision. By convening stakeholders from across the value chain, Busworld Southeast Asia 2026 is positioned to further strengthen its role as a key meeting point for the regional bus and coach industry, supporting collaboration, innovation, and the advancement of sustainable mobility that will see new products ready to roll out and play their part in driving the region’s transportation forward.
