Axalta Coating Systems showcased its latest coating technologies for the bus and commercial vehicle industry at Prawaas 5.0, highlighting solutions designed to improve vehicle durability, manufacturing efficiency and sustainability as India’s public transport sector continues its transition towards cleaner mobility.
As one of the leading coating suppliers to the Indian bus segment, the company presented a portfolio of technologies aimed at helping OEMs and body builders enhance vehicle finish quality while lowering production energy consumption and supporting fleet operators with longer-lasting exterior protection.
Among the key highlights were low-cure coating systems, developed to support FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) bus body applications. The technology enables manufacturers to reduce curing temperatures during the painting process, lowering energy consumption while maintaining coating durability, finish quality and production efficiency. The solution also supports the growing adoption of lightweight bus structures that contribute to improved fuel efficiency and operational performance.
Axalta also showcased its waterborne coating technologies, designed to reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions during the painting process while helping manufacturers comply with increasingly stringent environmental requirements.
With electric buses becoming an integral part of India’s public transport ecosystem, the company highlighted its dedicated e-bus coating solutions, including body coatings, motor insulation materials, wire enamels, impregnating resins, electrical steel coatings and battery assembly materials. The integrated portfolio enables electric bus manufacturers to source multiple coating solutions from a single technology partner.
Another key innovation on display was Axalta’s heat-reflective coating technology, engineered to reduce heat absorption on vehicle surfaces. For electric buses, lower cabin temperatures can reduce the load on air-conditioning systems, helping optimise battery utilisation and improve overall operating efficiency.
