ETC inaugaration at Tasawade toll News 27 copy

With an aim to minimise traffic snarls, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated a dedicated lane at toll plazas as FASTag lane. The FASTag lane is expected to promote electronic toll collection at toll plazas. For a hassle free experience, industry sources claim that the ministry of road transport and highways is banking upon electronic toll collection. They draw attention to thousands of users having installed the application by purchasing FASTag within two weeks of its launch. The penetration of FASTag is claimed to have increased to 18 per cent by the end of August 2017. FASTag is an RFID tag, which could be accessed both online and offline through service centres and banks. More than 6000 dealers in the country will be able to activate FASTags at the delivery time of the vehicle using FASTag Partner App. As penetration of FASTag rises, the NHAI is said to be planning more FASTag lanes to facilitate electronic toll collection. The government has mandated that vehicles sold from October 2017 will have an active FASTag.
