Trivandram-based KPN Travels has pressed the new Mercedes-Benz luxury coaches built at the brand new plant of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), Chennai, into service. The Super High Deck (SHD) 2436 luxury coach is capable of seating up to 57 people in superior levels of comfort according to DICV sources, and happens to be just the right product to complement the KPN Travels fleet. The owner of KPN Travels, KPN Rajesh was recently handed over the Mercedes-Benz 2436 luxury coach by Erich Nesselhauf, Managing Director and CEO, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles and Markus Villinger, Managing Director, Daimler Buses India, at a ceremony held at Chennai. Apart from a Wrightbus patented light-weight aluminium body structure built on the Mercedes-Benz OM500L rear-engine chassis that measures 14.7 m in length, the luxury coach, confirming to the bus body code, is equipped with a steerable tag axle at the rear and an advanced braking system. The luxury coach is powered by a 354 hp, 12-litre turbo-diesel engine mated to a six-speed transmission.
