1200 units of BYD YUAN Pro EVs (known locally as S1 PRO) are exported to Costa Rica this year. This batch of BEVs sets a new sales record in Latin America for BYD.

Daniel Rosenstock, a member of the Board of Directors of Cori Motors, the official distributor of BYD in Costa Rica, said: “the BYD YUAN Pro is a milestone in the history of electric vehicles in Costa Rica and Central America. As the favorite electric vehicle of Costa Ricans, this model gains widespread acceptance from both individual consumers and multinational enterprise buyers. BYD provides safe and durable blade batteries for new energy vehicles and a high-quality service guarantee for customers. Cori Motors has achieved a solid positioning in the Costa Rican market. We believe that our cooperation with BYD can better promote the popularization of electric vehicles in this region.”

The YUAN Pro is designed with BYD’s latest Dragon Face 3.0 design, with large and thick tires. The smooth body lines outline the whole vehicle, giving it a dynamic and lively appearance. In terms of performance, the YUAN Pro is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate Blade Battery and a permanent magnet synchronous single motor, with a maximum power of 100kW and a maximum torque of 210N·m. It has a range of 401km(NEDC) and can accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in only 3.9 seconds.

Jorge Martínez, a sports anchor of Teletica in Costa Rica and an owner of a BYD YUAN Pro, said: “The design of the YUAN Pro is fashionable and full of vitality. The car is suitable for intercity travel, so I like driving it to do outdoor sports. Each time I think about how electric vehicles can reduce environmental pollution, I am more certain that my decision to buy new energy vehicles is very meaningful, and it gives me a vision of a better future.”

Yokasta Valle, a Costa Rican professional boxer and the IBF female mini flyweight World Champion, said: “I always travel to attend competitions and go on business trips, and owning an electric car reduces my travel costs and improves my travel experience.”

As the leader in decarbonization in Latin America, Costa Rica has introduced a national decarbonization plan and is expected to have 70 per cent of public transport running on electricity by 2035. BYD provides a range of electric vehicle products in line with the demand of the local market. According to the official data, BYD has ranked first in Costa Rica’s new energy vehicle market for three consecutive years. In the first quarter of 2022, BYD accounted for about 50 per cent of the local NEVs market, with a year-on-year sales growth of 220 per cent.

In the future, BYD will continue to work with Cori Motors, the distributor in Costa Rica, to promote the aim for zero-emission mobility and contribute to green travel in Costa Rica.
