In a significant development, Volvo Buses India received an order for 51 multi-axle intercity coaches from VRL Logistics. At a press meet in Bengaluru, Prabhu Salageri, Vice President (Travels), VRL Logistics received the symbolic key for a multi-axle coach from VRV Sriprasad, Business Head, Volvo Buses India & South Asia. Operating on what is claimed to be the longest route in India at present, connecting Bengaluru to Jodhpur, VRL Logistics, post the addition of 51 multi-axle coaches is expected to begin operations on new routes as well as further consolidate its operations over existing routes. Both the stake holders, Volvo Buses India and VRL Logistics, stressed upon the growing dependence on road transportation, and in turn facilitated by the growing road infrastructure. The 51 buses include a mix of Volvo 9400 XL and Volvo 9400 PX multi-axle models with I-Shift AMT transmission technology. Both bus types are claimed to be equipped with requisite safety standards in terms of regulatory compliance, and have been certified by regulatory bodies like Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) in accordance to the revised Bus Body Code.
