Truck rentals have shot up by up to 12 per cent on trunk routes claim industry sources. They attribute it in part to the rising diesel prices in India, and a massive 50 per cent rise in cargo dispatches to address the upcoming festive demand. The other reason is said to be the urgency to beat the e-way bill transit pass system which starts in October 2017. Said sources that businesses piled up huge inventories in order to evade GST of 18-28 per cent on different products. Fruit and vegetable arrivals at various APMCs across the country have also witnessed a rise in product arrival by up to 15 per cent based on good monsoon, which has provided a boost to fleets on trunk routes. Sources also claim that the rise in truck sales is on the basis of heavy discounts of 12-20 per cent.
