Mumbai Bus Malak Sanghatana (MBMS) convened its sixth Annual General Meeting at Ghodbunder road on 26 August, 2016. The association brought together 300 private bus body builders including the likes of Neeta Travels, Modern Transport and Vigneshwar who attended the meet. This year, the AGM emphasised on the big break through achieved regarding MMR permit. MBMS got the government resolution regarding Mumbai Mahanagar Region Permit sanctioned earlier this year after several rounds of meets with various authorities. Thereafter a notification to issue MMR permit was sent to all the Regional Transport Offices (RTO’s) and hailed by bus owners at the AGM. Other issues discussed were quick implementation of online payment and permits, revision in penalty charges for fitness and E-audit of RTO’s likely to be taken up with the Transport Commissioner. Additionally at the AGM, a vote was sought from bus owners to acquire Radio Frequency Identification tag on all the buses by agreeing to pay a nominal one-time fee instead of having the transport authority to issue these free of cost for the bus owners. Representing bus owners under the jurisdiction of Mumbai Metropolitan Road Authority, MBMS was formed by bus owners in 2007. It’s objective has been to fight for the rights of bus owners, and claims to take the agenda to concerned authorities on a relevant platform as and when the need arises.
