Bengaluru saw the start of a pilot project.
Apollo Tyres, as the market lead in India, has taken the first step toward decreasing its carbon footprint throughout its value chain. The company has started a test project by deploying Electric Vehicles (EVs) to supply tyres from its regional distribution centre (RDC) to several Business Partners in Bengaluru, in India’s southern region.
While this project will address the growing problem of environmental pollution, it will also aid in the development of solutions to alleviate the effects of climate change. The use of electric vehicles for last-mile delivery falls under Scope 3 or Value Chain Emissions, which refers to the reduction of carbon emissions generated by an entity’s value chain, including its upstream and downstream activities. Tyre production has a lengthy value chain, and the emissions generated by its operations contribute to the industry’s overall carbon footprint.
Commenting on this initiative, Satish Sharma, President, Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa, Apollo Tyres Ltd said “We have embarked on a novel approach of making the delivery of our tyres green. The company has put in place a provision for electrification of delivery vehicles in the last mile connectivity. In addition to this pilot initiative in Bengaluru, we are in touch with our delivery partners for a similar deployment of EVs in other locations as well.”
Apollo Tyres keeps track of its carbon footprint and reports it on an annual basis. The group has been working hard to lower its environmental footprint throughout all of its operations, including the value chain. Apollo Tyres is trying to increase the use of sustainable raw materials in its products and gradually increase the use of renewable energy in its manufacturing facilities, as well as a number of other measures aimed at ensuring a sustainable future.
