With tyres accounting for 20-30 per cent of fuel consumption in a vehicle, and making up an important point of the operating costs of a commercial vehicle,  ATMA reached out to motorists on the eve of the environment day and urged them to maintain proper air pressure in the tyres of their vehicles. It also urged motorsists to take good care of their tyres, by sending out ambassadors for engagement at public places like markets and parking lots. Distributing booklets on tyre care, ATMA also announced that it will conduct tyre safety clinics over the next one year by roping in over 100 service engineers from ATMA member companies. The clincs will carry out inspection of over 22000 tyres across different cities including Delhi, Chennai, Mysore, Chandigarh and Greater Noida.

Said an ATMA source that fuel efficiency, tear-and-wear and compromise in safety from the failure to maintain the right air pressure are serious concerns. Over 50 per cent of the vehicles are estimated to overlook maintenance of accurate tyre pressure at any given time.
