The Delhi Traffic Police has issued challans to over 20,000 commercial vehicles operating with invalid permits in the first seven months of 2024, marking a significant crackdown on traffic rule violations. Officials reported that the highest number of offenders were from the Kotwali traffic circle in north Delhi.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance traffic flow and ensure commuter safety in the Capital. Data reveals that 20,009 commercial vehicles were penalised for permit violations across Delhi by July 15, a sharp increase from 13,751 during the same period last year. This uptick reflects the Delhi Traffic Police’s intensified focus on enforcing traffic regulations.

Specialised teams are conducting regular checks at key locations, including major intersections, highways, and commercial hubs, aiming to sustain the enforcement drive. Permit violations range from lacking proper documents and exceeding load limits to unauthorised driving and fitness issues. Vehicles found on non-designated routes or carrying prohibited items were also penalised.

In 2024, Kotwali saw the most permit violations with 1,406 cases, followed by Daryaganj (1,279) and Civil Lines (1,263). Madhu Vihar and Lajpat Nagar also had significant numbers of infractions.

The Traffic Police has launched awareness campaigns to educate vehicle owners and operators about the importance of valid permits, aiming to foster voluntary compliance and enhance road safety. This crackdown underscores the city’s commitment to maintaining an orderly traffic environment.
