A life-changing moment unfolded for Harpinder Singh, a truck driver from Barwa village, Nurpur Bedi, as he won the ₹10 crore jackpot in the Punjab State Dear Lohri Makar Sankranti Bumper-2025 lottery. The results, declared on Saturday, marked this as the biggest prize ever offered by any lottery in Punjab.

Harpinder, who works as a truck driver in Kuwait, had bought the winning ticket for ₹500 from a vendor at the Old Bus Stand while visiting home for the holidays. Reflecting on his unexpected fortune, he said, “I cannot believe my luck. It is by sheer grace of God that I have won such a big amount. I feel one should buy a ticket at least once in their lifetime.”
Despite this incredible win, Harpinder’s journey has been filled with struggles. He had taken a loan to fund his travel to Kuwait, seeking better opportunities for his family. A few years ago, his son, Devinder Singh, suffered a tragic accident, leading to the amputation of his left arm. Now, Harpinder plans to use the prize money to set up a business for his son and ensure his future security. Devinder hopes the funds will also enable him to get better medical treatment and improve his quality of life.
Apart from supporting his son, Harpinder intends to clear his debts and invest in a secure future. When asked if he truly needed money that badly, he smiled and said, “Paise di zaroorat kis nu nahi hundi” (Who doesn’t need money?).
Having purchased lottery tickets for the past 15 years, Harpinder’s perseverance has finally paid off, turning his dream into reality.
