Tata Motors Secures First PLI-AUTO Certificate in M3 Category

Tata Motors has received the first Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) certificate from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) in the M3 Category for its 12m long Fully Built Bus, TATA STARBUS 4/12 EV, encompassing both AC and Non-AC variants. This recognition affirms the vehicle model’s adherence to standards.

The certificate was presented by Dr. Dr. Reji Mathai ARAI Director, to Mr. T. V. Srinivas Tata Motors Head of Product Planning & Strategy, in the presence of senior leadership teams from both ARAI and Tata Motors Ltd.

The M3 Category pertains to motor vehicles designed for passenger carriage with a Gross Vehicle Weight exceeding 5 tonnes. ARAI’s acknowledgement follows Tata Motors’ earlier achievement of the first PLI certificate in the N1 category for four-wheeled goods vehicles.

ARAI praised Tata Motors for diligently following the Automotive PLI scheme’s standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the Ministry of Heavy Industries. The PLI scheme aims to promote local production and enhance exports in the automotive sector.

This milestone comes on the heels of Tata Motors obtaining a domestic value certificate, a crucial step towards qualifying for the substantial Rs 25,938 crore PLI scheme. The Central Government recently extended the PLI scheme for the automotive sector by one year, now effective until 2027–28. The incentives apply to specific sales of Advanced Automotive Technology (AAT) products manufactured in India from April 1, 2022, encompassing vehicles and related components.
