Tata Motors has begun supplying new city buses for the newly engineered Amritsar Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system. The order is said to be for 93 buses, and on the merit of the company’s experience in supplying buses to the Ahmedabad and Raipur BRT system. Each Amritsar BRT bus is fitted with an auto transmission. Each air-conditioned bus has a capacity to ferry an estimated 80 to 100 passengers. Powered by a Tata Cummins ISBe engine, and equipped with air suspension for superior ride and comfort, the bus features multiplex wiring to meet Urban Bus (UBS II) specification standards. Containing an Intelligent Transport System (ITS), a Public Information System (PIS), GPS, and vehicle health monitoring and diagnostics, each bus on the network is connected to the centrally located control room through GPS.
