Sonalika International Tractors Ltd., aiming to grow its exports by over 20 per cent in the current fiscal, is exploring 10 new export destinations including USA, Japan and Korea with its products like the 120 bhp tractor. The first set of tractors, according to Gaurav Saxena,Tractors President-International Operations, have already been shipped to USA. They would be made commercially available within a year through two partners in the US, catering to North and South regions of the country respectively. The tractor market in the US is estimated to be around two lakh units per annum with demand for 20–90 bhp tractors. Keen to attain one to two per cent market share in the USA in the first year of operations, Sonalika is said to be looking at Switzerland, Latvia and Mongolia as well to exports its tractors. The company, to fuel its export thrust, setup a new facility at Punjab over the past two and a half years and upgraded technology with an investment of Rs. 500 crore. Exports are said to have grown by 34 per cent. The industry degrew by 1.5 per cent.
