Scania will deliver 300 trucks to the Al Basami International Group. The latter is a transport company specialised in passenger vehicle transportation services. Claimed to be its largest single deal ever in the Gulf region, the deal was concluded through Scania’s distributor in Saudi Arabia, General Contracting Company (GCC) of the Olayan Group. “We evaluated several brands comprehensively and found that Scania provided the best overall total operating cost, considering fuel consumption as well as repair and maintenance costs,” averred Abdulraouf Al Qahtani, Group CEO, Al Bassami. “Another decisive factor has been Olayan’s extensive workshop network in the Kingdom, ”he added. Al Bassami’s fleet today has more than 2,000 trucks across the passenger and goods transportation segments. With the new deal, the company will add another 300 Scania G 410 4×2 long-haulage tractor units. Sources say that despite fuel prices being the lowest in Saudi Arabia, a price increase cannot be ruled out. It is therefore that Al Bassami is looking at options like the G-series from Scania to attain optimal fuel economy. Scania with the delivery to Al Bassami is expecting to double its market share in Saudi Arabia.
