Eicher’s new pro plus range redefines India’s light and medium duty trucks with advanced comfort, payload capacity, and smart connectivity, writes Niharika Singh

Astrong hold in the Light and Medium Duty (LMD) segment with the pro series has VE Commercial Vehicles taking a big leap with the launch of the Eicher Pro Plus range. The new series is engineered with an emphasis on higher payloads, driver comfort, intelligent connectivity, and extended body options that reflect the changing requirement of India’s haulage sector.

The launch comes at a time when the country’s transportation sector is undergoing rapid transformation. The boom in e-commerce, the need for efficient intercity distribution, and the demand for intra-city goods movement have pushed manufacturers to adapt. Eicher’s response is the Pro Plus range an upgrade that integrates productivity features with technological tools to keep fleets connected and profitable. The pro plus series is not a single product but a family of trucks covering a wide range of duty cycles, from long-haul to intra-city distribution, and even construction applications.

The pro 3018XP Plus is positioned as a long-haul option with an 18.25-tonne GVWis powered by a 160 hp E494 engine mated to a seven-speed transmission with overdrive. It is targeted at routes that demand both endurance and efficiency. The inclusion of a sleeper cabin with ergonomic inclusions underlines the emphasis on drive comfort for extended journeys. For regional and inter-city applications the Pro 2118XP Plus offers a day cabin layout and the same 18.25-tonne GVW. It’s tight turning radius and the walkthrough cabin make it suitable for operators moving in and out of urban centres.

The pro 2059 Plus comes with a 7.5-tonne GVW and the proven E366 engine, offer a balance of payload and enhanced manoeuvrability. It has been designed with city logistics in mind, especially suited to retail distribution and e-commerce loads.

The Pro 2095XP Plus, with 11.5-tonne GVW, multiple wheelbase options, and up to 140 hp peak rated power, provides flexibility for a wide range of cargo applications. The DLX variant includes higher-comfort cabins and infotainment features, pointing towards gradual improvements in driver experience even in medium-duty categories.

At the compact end of the spectrum, the Pro 2049 Plus caters to intra-city and last-mile operations with 5.5-tonne GVW, high torque, and the lowest turning circle in its class. It is designed for frequent stop-and-go duty cycles common in dense urban areas. Rounding up the line-up is the Pro 2110XPT Plus, a 14-tonne tipper that churns out 160 hp peak rated power, developing 500 Nm peak torque. Built on a rugged ET60 gearbox with hybrid gearshift, it targets the construction sector, with a walkthrough cabin to balance safety and operational comfort.

Mileage Ka Badshah

Eicher calls the pro plus series “Mileage ka Badshah “ because it has been engineered to deliver the best fuel efficiency in its class, which in turn directly lowers the TCO. This reputation comes from a mix of factors: fuel-efficient E494 engines tuned for different load segments, smart AC technology that reduces fuel consumption by cutting cooling when idling, optimised aerodynamics, and lightweight yet durable vehicle design that allows for higher payload without extra fuel burn. Additionally, features like real-time telematics through Eicher Live and My Eicher help monitor driving patterns and reduce wastage, further improving Mileage. Since fuel is the single largest cost in trucking operations, consistent saving here makes pro plus highly profitable over its life cycle, earning it the title of Mileage ka Badshah.

Cabin And Comfort Upgrades

One of the standout aspects of the new Pro Plus Series is the factory-fitted air-conditioned cabs in the LMD segment. By introducing this as a standard across several models, Eicher is focusing on driver ergonomics and comfort two factors directly linked to productivity.

The Intelligent air-conditioning system adjust cooling based on demand and automatically cuts off when the vehicle idles. This allows drivers relief during long working hours without heavily impacting fuel efficiency. Other ergonomic features include walkthrough cabins, tilt and telescopic steering, and seats designed to reduce fatigue over extended trips.

The pro plus range has also been developed with higher payload capacity across variants. In a sector where profitability often comes down to the tonnage carried per trip, this upgrade allows operators to move more goods without increasing trips or costs. Extended cargo body options are another addition, aimed particularly at e-commerce and parcel delivery businesses. Instead of relying on post-sale body modifications, operators can now access longer,factory-built bodies tailored for high- volume loads, an important consideration as demand for urban and regional logistics grows.

Technology And Connectivity

In an era where digital tools are reshaping fleet management, Eicher has equipped the pro plus series with full connectivity. Trucks are integrated with Eicher Live telematics and the My Eicher app, providing real-time diagnostics, fuel consumption data, and vehicle health alerts.

The connectivity is further supported by Eicher 24×7 uptime centre and service network across India, ensuring that operators can minimise downtime and address issues quickly. By embedding these systems directly into the vehicles, Eicher is pushing the LMD segment closer to the connected truck ecosystem already seen in heavier duty fleets.

Industry Positioning

The pro plus launch reflects a wider industry trend in the commercial vehicle market. As India’s logistics chains become more complex, vehicles need to be versatile, connected, and equipped with features that were once considered premium. By bringing in factory-built AC cabins, extended body options, and telematics, Eicher is aligning with these expectations in the LMD category. According to Vishal Mathur, EVP-Light & Medium Duty Trucks at VECV, the pro Plus range is the result of “deep customer engagement and future focused engineering.”

The intention, he explained, is to support not just current needs but also the emerging demands of India’s supply chains, from intra-city deliveries to regional hauls. The introduction of the pro plus series can be seen as part of Eicher’s gradual shift from being purely a product manufacturer to positioning itself as a solution provider. Beyond hardware, the emphasis on connectivity uptime services, and integration with fleet management tools shows how commercial vehicle companies are expanding into digital ecosystems.

This transition mirrors changes across the global CV industry, where data-driven operations, driver welfare, and lifecycle profitability are taking precedence over just mechanical specifications.

Conclusion

The launch of the pro plus series underlines the evolution of India’s LMD truck market. With trucks that combine payload efficiency, driver-centric features, and connectivity, Eicher is attempting to balance traditional operational priorities with modern logistics demand. While competition in this segment remains strong, the Pro Plus range sets a reference point for what operators can now expect as standard higher comfort, smarter integration, and application-specific configurations. For fleet owners and operators, the truck may offer an opportunity to adapt quickly to the changing pace of India’s logistics ecosystem, where efficiency is increasingly defined not just by mileage but also by connectivity, uptime, and driver well-being.
