At an event organised by the Bhartiya Micro Credit (BMC) programme under the Mudra Yojna Scheme at Noida, 5100 e-rickshaws were distributed to buyers including 100 women and transgenders. The recipients of e-rickshaws were also provided an insurance cover. Set to ply in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Faridabad, the e-rickshaws, claimed sources, will be accessible through apps. like Ola, and by making an online payment through Freecharge, which has been integrated into this scheme. As part of the scheme, the Bhartiya Micro Credit (BMC) will also set up charging stations for every 50 e-rickshaws. Service centres (for maintenance of e-rickshaws and batteries) will also be set up for every 250 e-rickshaws. Both are expected to help small and micro enterprises to emerge. Aimed at enabling existing rickshaw and hand-cart owners to graduate to their own e-rickshaw by accessing formal credit, bringing income stability, dignity and social benefits (including family health insurance, pension, and identity cards), rickshaw collectives, claimed sources, take joint responsibility for a group of loans, guaranteed by the BMC, for which they can own their vehicles through easy weekly repayments of Rs.235 per day over a period of two years as installments.
