In a bid to discourage overloaded vehicles from plying on the highways, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has its task cut out. Overloaded vehicles will continue to be pushed off the road, unless load beyond the permissible limits are cut down. In addition, penal charges will be levied on such vehicles. They are likely to amount to over 10 times of the those currently applicable at the toll plazas. The move is also expected to help cut down vehicular pollution, which is rather closely associated with overloading.
