Thane Municipal Corporation plans to test rapid-setting concrete on the damaged ghat stretch between Kajupada and Chena village.

Urgent repairs are planned for the Thane-bound stretch of Ghodbunder Road, with Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao directing officials to carry out a pilot project using rapid-setting concrete. The focus is on the heavily damaged section between Kajupada and Chena village near Gaimukh Ghat, which has caused significant traffic congestion in recent weeks.
The road, which connects the Western and Eastern Express Highways, is heavily trafficked on a daily basis. Continuous rains have exacerbated existing damage, frequently causing traffic jams that extend up to the Ahmedabad highway.
To ensure faster and more durable repairs, the city is looking into rapid-setting concrete, a material that hardens in hours, allowing traffic to resume with little delay. Officials believe this solution will be more efficient than traditional patchwork, especially during the monsoon season.
The pilot will be carried out in collaboration with the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), MMRDA, traffic police, and the forest department. Depending on the outcome, the approach may be applied to other vulnerable sections of the road.
