Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has began delivering the Mercedes-Benz luxury coach, the Super High Deck (SHD) 2436. The first set of buses were handed over to KPN Rajesh, owner, KPN Travels, at the DICV Bus plant in Chennai. KPN Travels is a luxury coach operator in South India with a fleet size of over 330 intercity buses. With 61 push-back seats, 14 cubic m. of luggage space, the coach, built with the use of Wrightbus’ patented aluminium body building technique, is claimed to be lightest in its class. Markus Villinger, Managing Director, Daimler Buses India said, “Being the longest coach in the country and built with strong features, it is sure to set benchmarks in ultra-luxury travel.” The Mercedes-Benz SHD 2436 is claimed to have features like an active steerable tag axle with a low turning circle diameter to negotiate sharp turns and bends, an advanced braking system, and a strategically positioned fuel tank.
