By offering a new marketplace for used trucks across India, TrucksUp is bridging the gap between the organised and unorganised sectors.

India’s trucking industry is highly fragmented, with around 80-85 per cent of trucks owned by small fleet operators or individual truckers. The unorganised sector dominates, leading to inefficiencies like empty return trips, lack of pricing transparency, and difficulty in finding reliable freight. This is where TrucksUp’s TrucksHub app steps in, helping to bring order to the chaotic market.

TrucksHub is a marketplace for used trucks, making it easy for buyers and sellers to connect across India. The platform lists verified used trucks across various tonnages, helping fleet owners upgrade or expand efficiently. Since the unorganised sector often lacks access to structured buying and selling channels, TrucksHub bridges this gap by offering transparent pricing, verified listings, and an easy-to-use interface.

When it comes to freight movement, the unorganised sector contributes significantly, with medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks (16-30 tonnes) playing a crucial role. TrucksUp itself facilitates over two million tons of freight movement per month, reflecting the potential of organised digital solutions in this space.

By providing vehicle verification, tracking, and efficient matching, TrucksHub is transforming the unorganised sector, making truck operations more transparent, efficient, and profitable for small fleet owners and independent truckers.

Making a difference

The used truck market in India has always been a part of the unorganised sector scattered, unreliable, and full of middlemen who complicate the process. TrucksHub brings structure to this chaos by offering a transparent, digital platform that directly connects buyers and sellers, cutting out unnecessary intermediaries.

Unlike regular processes where there are  endless calls, unverified listings, and no real guarantee of the truck’s condition, TruckHuB ensures every listing is verified so that buyers get exactly what they see. Additionally, it provides expert inspection reports in real-time, making the process much more trustworthy. Not just the  transactions but TruckHuB is a complete ecosystem, offering financing options, insurance, GPS tracking, FastTags, smart fuel cards, and even driving license verification.

For decades, the unorganised truck market has lacked structure, making it difficult for buyers and sellers to operate smoothly. TruckHuB ensures seamless, reliable, and beneficial experience for everyone in the trucking industry.

Competitive Advantage

The pull factor for TrucksHub lies in its seamless integration with the existing TrucksUp platform, which already boasts a highly engaged user base. TrucksUp users, who rely on the app daily for services like checking loads, accessing insurance, securing financing, and using GPS or fuel features, are naturally inclined to explore additional services. This level of engagement establishes a solid foundation for Trucks Hub buy-and-sell marketplace, as users are familiar with the platform and trust it for their logistics and trucking needs.

By integrating TrucksHub into the TrucksUp app, users do not need to make a separate effort to discover the marketplace as it is effortlessly embedded into their existing journey. This eliminates the need for extensive marketing or user acquisition efforts that standalone marketplaces often face. Users who might be interested in buying or selling trucks can easily transition to the marketplace without feeling overwhelmed by new technology or platforms.

Moreover, the ongoing engagement with TrucksUp ensures a steady stream of active users, making the marketplace dynamic and continually attracting both buyers and sellers. This consistency is critical to the success of any marketplace, as it creates a self-sustaining cycle of activity. Thus, the pull factor is essentially the combination of user trust, engagement, and the ease of accessing TrucksHub through a platform they already use.

Platform efficiency

To ensure all trucks on the platform are verified, TrucksHub has implemented a comprehensive multi-step process. First, vehicle owners must complete Aadhaar and PAN verification. This step helps establish the legitimacy of the individual listing the truck, minimising the risk of fraud. Once the identity is confirmed, the owner is asked to submit photos of the truck, following a specific set of guidelines to ensure clarity and accuracy.

To further verify the vehicle’s details, the app. offers a “verified” listing option, where the truck undergoes a thorough inspection by a third-party vendor. This inspection ensures that the truck’s actual condition matches the details provided in the listing. The inspection process is supported by AI tools that help streamline the scheduling and monitoring, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.

AI plays a critical role in automating various aspects of the verification process. From validating documents to checking the quality of submitted photos, AI helps reduce human error and accelerates the verification steps. With these automated checkpoints, we ensure that all vehicles listed on the platform meet our verification standards, providing a secure and trustworthy environment for all users.

Beyond onboarding, TrucksUp maintains dynamic, real-time monitoring through GPS tracking, These checkpoints help ensure route compliance, reduce delays, and enhance safety. TrucksUp’s digitised process ensures transparency, speed, and trust. By combining industry best practices with smart automation, the company aims to build a dependable and efficient trucking ecosystem.

Streamlining inefficiencies

Sarthak Elwadhi, Co-Founder, TrucksUp speaks to Deepti Thore about how Trucksup is streamlining inefficiencies caused due to the fragmented trucking sector. He also shares his insights on scrappage policy.

Q. Can you share your strategic business expansion plans and partnerships to boost the organised market? An IPO at some point?

A: At TrucksUp, our core mission has always been to digitise and streamline the highly fragmented trucking sector in India. As part of our strategic expansion, we’re focusing on deepening our tech stack to support predictive analytics, real-time fleet visibility, and end-to-end supply chain intelligence. This will not only enhance operational efficiency but also bring transparency and trust to the ecosystem key pillars for growing the organised logistics market.

In terms of partnerships, we have actively collaborated with financial powerhouses like HDFC Bank and Sundaram Finance. These partnerships are instrumental in enabling access to affordable financing for fleet operators and individual truckers, many of whom traditionally find it difficult to secure loans or working capital from conventional sources. By offering structured financial products, these collaborations help truck owners upgrade their fleets, ensure timely vehicle maintenance, and improve compliance, ultimately boosting operational efficiency and bringing more players into the organised market.

We also see technology as a crucial lever. TrucksUp is working towards integrating advanced analytics, smart freight-matching, and real-time tracking systems to empower both shippers and fleet owners with data-driven decision-making tools. These efforts will not only optimise capacity utilisation but also enhance trust, predictability, and profitability across the supply chain.

What according to you is the future of the used vehicle market with alternative propulsion systems coming in?

A: The future of the used vehicle market in the trucking industry is poised for a transformative shift as alternative propulsion systems such as electric, hydrogen, and CNG gain momentum. From a TrucksUp perspective, this evolution presents both opportunities and challenges. On one hand, the push for cleaner, more sustainable transport solutions is driving fleet operators to upgrade to newer, greener vehicles. This shift will inevitably create a growing pool of conventional diesel trucks entering the used vehicle market. These vehicles, still operationally efficient for certain routes and applications, offer cost-effective options for smaller logistics players, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 markets where infrastructure for alternative fuels is still developing.

At TrucksUp, we foresee a gradual but steady integration of alternative propulsion trucks into the resale ecosystem. As the technology matures and resale values stabilize, electric and CNG-powered trucks will begin to feature more prominently in the used market. This shift will require digital platforms like ours to adapt by providing better valuation tools, battery health reports, and transparent lifecycle data to instill confidence among buyers. Our goal is to ensure that even in a changing landscape, access to reliable and affordable trucks remains democratic, whether they’re conventional or powered by cleaner fuels.

Moreover, this transition highlights the need for educating and empowering buyers across the trucking value chain. TrucksUp is committed to becoming a knowledge hub as much as a marketplace. We aim to guide fleet owners and drivers in understanding the operational implications, financing models, and ROI of used alternative fuel trucks. As India’s trucking ecosystem moves toward sustainability, the used vehicle market supported by robust digital platforms will play a critical role in ensuring an inclusive, economically viable transition for all stakeholders.

Has the scrappage policy and replacement demand impacted the growth potential?

A: The scrappage policy and the resulting rise in replacement demand have had a significant impact on the growth potential of the trucking industry in India. With the government enforcing the removal of commercial vehicles older than 15 years that fail fitness tests, there has been a strong push among fleet operators to upgrade. This has led to a noticeable increase in demand for new trucks that are not only fuel-efficient but also equipped with modern technology. As a result, truck manufacturers, particularly in the medium and heavy commercial vehicle segments, are experiencing a rise in sales clearly indicating positive growth in the sector.

Interestingly, the policy is also driving the industry toward cleaner and smarter practices. More BS-VI compliant vehicles are hitting the roads, and interest in CNG, LNG, and electric trucks is steadily growing. At TrucksUp, we’re supporting this transition by offering digital tools like real-time data insights, smart routing, and fleet optimization features. These tools help transporters make well-informed decisions, whether it’s about replacing aging vehicles or improving operational efficiency. While small fleet owners may struggle with the costs of upgrading, tech-driven platforms like ours alongside government efforts such as the Gati Shakti initiative are helping bridge the gap and create opportunities for more inclusive and sustainable growth.
