Mahindra’s new pick-up Imperio will replace the Genio. Available in four variants, two single-cab and two double-cab options, the Imperio is powered by a 75 hp, 2489 cc direct-injection diesel engine that produces 220 Nm torque and is claimed to deliver a mileage of 13.5 kmpl. Claiming to command a market share of 53 per cent at the end of the FY2015, Mahindra, with the launch of the Imperio is looking at further strengthening its position in the Small Commercial Vehicle (SCV) segment. Expressed Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra, “We are a market leader in the pick-up segment, and have identified gaps to further consolidate our presence in the SCV segment.” Produced at Mahindra’s Chakan plant, the Imperio project is claimed to have attracted an investment of Rs. 70 crore. Some 20,000 units would be produced annually. Featuring a distinctive front grille, and a distinctive bumper with fog lamp enclosures in it, the Imperio comes equipped with HVAC in top variants, a tiltable power assisted steering, telematics, and a fuel smart technology with power and eco modes for extracting superior fuel efficiency. The Single-cab BS3 variant is priced at Rs. 6.25 lakh, and the double-cab top variant is priced at Rs. 7.27 lakh ex- showroom Thane.
