Kinetic has forayed into the area of green mobility by launching an electric auto-rickshaw called the Safar. The battery operated auto-rickshaw is positioned as an eco-friendly, and a social innovation to promote pollution free and an affordable mode of public transport. The design of the Safar was approved by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), and complies with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR). A ground up development according to Sulajja Firodia, Founder and CEO, Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solution, the e-auto is priced at Rs. 1.38 lakh ex-showroom. The price is inclusive of an Exide Battery. With the buyer of the Safar expected to recover his investment in eight to nine months, the commuter could pay a price of Rs. 10 for one ride. The company, said Firodia, at the launch, has already bagged an order for 27,000 Safars amounting to Rs. 400 crores from the Uttar Pradesh Government. The vehicles will be built at the company’s facility at Ahmednagar. The installed capacity at the plant is 4,000 vehicles per month. Notable features of the Safar include an all steel body for durability and ruggedness, a dual headlamp for night vision, powerful brakes for safety, dashboard with battery charge indicator and speedometer. The maximum speed the Safar can accomplish is 25 kmph. This is in accordance with the CMVR. The Safar can ferry four passengers apart from the driver.
