FRP Institute, which specialises in the promotion of composites, has announced its alignment with the Government of India’s (GoI’s) ‘Make in India’ initiative. At a conference in Mumbai, the institute highlighted the advantages FRP offers in diverse sectors including automobiles. It highlighted the use of FRP in commercial vehicles, buses and reefer trucks apart from ballistic armour, vehicle armour and security systems for cash and assets in transit. Claiming that the consumption of FRP continues to be a mearge 0.25 kg per capita, the institute expressed the need to popularise the use of FRP. Mentioning that the growth rate continues to be a poor six per cent, the institute emphasised on the use of FRP in areas like defence. To promote the use of FRP in new areas, the instutute has scheduled a fair at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, between January 10, 2017, and January 12, 2017. The fair, International Conference and Exhibition on Reinforced Plastics (ICERP) 2017, will have 110 companies specialising in FRP participating. Along side the fair, conferences and seminars will be held. Papers will be presented, and visitors will be informed of the new developments in composites.
