In a bid to leverage information technology, the Government is planning to bring all petroleum products together on an e-commerce platform, claim industry sources. They draw attention to a recent statement made by oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Addressing the India Mobile Congress event at Delhi, the minister is known to have said that there is a need to leverage the technological advancements in the IT and telecom sector. Known to have tweeted that online home delivery of petrol and diesel would soon begin, the minister is also said to have revealed that the petroleum industry posted an annual turnover of Rs 6.5 lakh crore. The industry serves four crore consumers through one lakh retail outlets.
