Continental has announced the acquisition of the Hi-Res 3D Flash LIDAR business from Advanced Scientific Concepts, Inc. (ASC) based in Santa Barbara, California. The acquisition is expected to aid Continental in enhancing its Advanced Driver Assistance (ADA) Systems product portfolio with a future-orientated solution to add to the group of surrounding sensors needed to achieve fully automated driving. A significant advantage offered by Hi-Res 3D Flash LIDAR sensor technology is the provision of real-time machine vision as well as environmental mapping that enables significantly more detailed and accurate field of vision around the entire vehicle, independent of the time of the day, and in adverse weather conditions.
