A Chinese company has unveiled a giant bus concept called the Transit Explore Bus (TEB). Its is designed to be an elevated bus that is capable of gliding over traffic in the urban landscape. Supported by two legs that run along rails laid along the roadside, the TEB can glide above traffic at speeds of up to 60 kmph. Vehicles less than two metres in height can drive freely under the TEB when stationary or moving. Aimed at saving a lot of road space according to Song Youzhou, the project’s chief engineer, the TEB could transport up to 1,400 commuters. Produced at approximately 20 per cent of the cost it would take to construct an underground train, the TEB could be rolled out far more quickly as well. The supporting infrastructure required is relatively simple. One TEB can replace 40 conventional buses.
