India is seeking funds from World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to procure electric buses in a bid to fuel its electric mobility plan. This, claim industry sources, was revealed by the union minister of road, transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari. Stating that the e-buses procured will be given to state road transport corporations, sources claim that the loans will be paid through the savings that would be made on account of going electric from diesel. Gadkari is also known to have said that the government would incur an expense of Rs.80,000 crore over the next five years to add lanes on the national highways given the 22 per cent growth of vehicles every year. Stating that there will be no roads to drive soon, the union minister, claimed sources, stressed upon providing sustainable city and intercity transport across the country.
