Vodafone India’s enterprise division, Vodafone Business Services (VBS), has announced a strategic technology partnership with JCB India. VBS will provide Machine-To-Machine (M2M) services and power JCB India’s LiveLink, a telematics system that allows remote monitoring of JCB’s construction equipment. LiveLink will help track operation (including fuel reporting), security (tracking the location of operation and receive tow-away alerts), and service (mapping preventive maintenance and carrying out on-site service). When announced a few months ago, JCB India source had claimed that the LiveLink system will be offered to the backhoe loader and excavator clients .It will be interesting to see therefore how the LiveLink service pans to other equipment users of JCB India over time. It will also underline the reason of why JCB India chose to go with the 2G network, given the remote location of operation its equipment may be subjected to quite often. Using Vodafone’s sim-based service, which is claimed to have the capability of simultaneously handling 10 billion SIMs, LiveLink is expected to enable JCB customers to derive more value and profitability from their business.
