Tesla Motors is claimed to have expressed an interest to manufacture electric trucks and buses. Elon Musk, the company founder and CEO is known to express that it is looking at addressing all major truck and bus segments as part of the plans for the next 10 years. Industry sources claim that heavy-duty trucks are at the early development stages at Tesla and will be revealed as early as 2017. Concentrating on the successful launch of the ‘Model 3’ car, the company is said to be looking at utonomous electrically-propelled trucks and buses. The success of such CVs would proliferate truck and bus platooning. Interestingly, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, after a tour of California, has claimed that Tesla is interested in setting up an Asian manufacturing hub in India, but will commit to the project only after its Model 3 is launched next year.
