Chairing a meeting of the Transport Development Council (TDC), in Vadodara, union minister for road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, is known to have asked transport ministers of states to submit suggestions on tax and permit issues. Asserting that the people are willing to accept change, Gadkari has called for improved standards of buses plying in their respective states besides looking at the scope of plying a double-decker bus on an inter-state route. He has additionally urged states to build modern bus ports on the lines of the one built in Vadodara. The state ministers were also taken on a guided tour of the Vadodara bus terminal and the Vadodara automated driving test track to help them get a first hand account of such modern facilities that could be replicated in their respective states. A task force has been constituted by the GST council to suggest measures to create an ecosystem in a bid to pave the way for seamless transport across state borders. States have also been asked to adopt digital payment solutions.
