NGT open to OEMs seeking clarityThe National Green Tribunal (NGT) has allowed Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) of commercial vehicles to file applications seeking clarifications on NGT’s previous orders pertaining to diesel vehicles being scrapped in Delhi NCR. Clarification, claim industry sources, is if the commercial vehicles are a part of the order, which the NGT has passed recently regarding the de-registration of diesel vehicles. Sources claim that the Delhi Government interpreted the NGT order to include commercial vehicles. This posed a problem regarding the re-registration of commercial vehicles over a certain age. The tribunal, claim sources, has said that it will not pass further orders as the Supreme Court has taken up the issue of air pollution caused by diesel vehicles. The SC banned the registration of diesel SUV and high end vehicles with engine capacities of 2000cc and above in the Delhi NCR on December 16, 2015. It removed the prohibition on August 12, 2016, by imposing a one per cent environmental cess on ex-showroom prices.
