A jury panel comprising 25 senior commercial vehicle journalists, presenting 25 leading commercial vehicle magazines from across Europe, voted Iveco’s new Eurocargo as the ‘International Truck of the Year 2016’. The Eurocargo scored 101 votes in the face of strong competition in the form of Renault Truck’s C&K range and Ford Truck’s new construction series respectively. This is the fourth award won by Iveco in the last four years, and following the ‘International Truck of the Year 2013’ award won by the Stralis, the ‘International Van of the Year 2015’ award won by the Daily and the ‘International Coach of the Year 2016’ award by the Magelys. Gianenrico Griffini, International Truck of the Year Chairman, gave away the award to Pierre Lahutte, Iveco Brand President, on the sidelines of Solutrans, the biennial trade fair for haulage and urban transport professionals held in Lyon, France. The evaluation for the award includes a truck launched in the period of last 12 months, it has made significant contribution to road transport efficiency based on several criterias like technical innovation, comfort, safety, driveability, fuel economy, environmental footprint and total cost of ownership (TCO).

In their statement, Iveco has mentioned that the new Eurocargo range is a basis for important innovation in terms of engine, safety, comfort, cost reduction and environmental sustainability. It is the only Euro VI medium range vehicle to meet emissions standards with a single anti-emission system, the Hi-SCR system with passive diesel particulate filter. This unique solution does not change the combustion process because it works with a fresh air intake instead of exhaust gas recirculation. The Iveco Tector 5 and Tector 7 engines are optimised to suit typical operating conditions of urban missions, while the new turbocharger enables the vehicle to respond dynamically on acceleration and start up, resulting in up to eight per cent fuel savings.

Building on Iveco’s leadership in natural gas, the new Eurocargo is also available in a ‘super-eco’ version that runs on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), offering lower environmental impact and economic advantages compared to diesel versions. The 210 hp 6-litre Tector engine delivers significant benefits in efficiency and emissions. Already compliant to Euro VI step C emissions standards (required from December 31, 2016), this vehicle has access to restricted areas in city centres, providing a further advantage in multi-drop missions. In addition, natural gas Eurocargo vehicles are extremely silent, which makes them perfect for night-time urban work. Also on offer is a two-pedal Astronic automated box; plus an eco-roll function that encourages fuel-saving ‘coasting’ possible. Termed by Lahutte as ‘respectful of people and the environment’, the new Eurocargo according to Griffini raises the bar in a highly-competitive segment in which Eurocargo has set the market benchmark in the last 25 years. Environmentally friendly, quiet, fuel efficient, manoeuvrable and comfortable, the new Eurocargo, apart from low TCO, in its advertisement proclaims itself as the ‘The truck the city likes’.
