The Mathura refinery of Indian Oil Corporation has despatched BSVI High-Speed Diesel (HSD) to two auto companies ahead of others claim industry sources. The company, they add, have been asked to test the viability and compatibility of fuel. S M Vaidya, the general manager of Mathura refinery is known to have said that his refinery has completed the target set by the government well before the deadline. Sources claim that Honda was supplied five barrels of BSVI fuel, and Mahindra was supplied 20 kilo-litre of fuel at Chennai. Said to contain only 10 parts per million sulphur with a high standard motor spirit, the BSVI fuel at Mathura refinery was produced without installing any new machinery, Vaidya is known to have stated. By October 2017, a new unit will go on stream at the refinery, claim sources, to manufacture BSVI standard HSD and high quality motor spirit. An early availability of BSVI fuel will enable automobile companies to design, develop and test engines and vehicles complying with BSVI emission standards. The government has scheduled the implementation of BSVI emission norms in mid-2020. The earlier deadline for implementation was set at 2023. It was pushed back to be able to tackle the issue of pollution that is troubling some of the Indian cities like Delhi and Mumbai.
